Let me first start by saying if you haven't heard TwentyOne Pilots do yourself a favor and go to Apple Music now and check them out, thank me later.
As many of you know this past weekend Kyle and I saw Twenty One Pilots up in Gilford, NH. What a show! Now, going into this show I knew very little of the band aside from their names, Tyler (lead singer) & Josh (drums), I knew I loved their songs but that's about it. When we arrived we quickly learned that their fan base consisted of 90% teenage girls and 10% other ages. This fact did not discourage me, however, because I am a firm believer that music is meant to be enjoyed and to make you feel something no matter what the age, so we took our seats and waited for the show to begin.
Right off the bat we were pleasantly surprised by the opening acts. A band named “Chef’s Special” started things off with a solid performance then came “MuteMath” which blew me away. Their drummer is incredibly talented and the band overall was just awesome, boom fan gained! Once the opening acts were done hyping up the crowd on came the two man show of Twenty One Pilots!
They started things off with a haunting performance of HeavyDirtySoul on a dark set stage wearing ski masks. As the songs continued I realized this was not just another concert, it was a show for the ages! Tyler was jumping all over the stage, on top of the piano, into the crowd, etc. About twenty minutes into the show the lights went out and the two popped up on a small stage in the middle of the crowd and proceeded to perform some of their older songs. It was a very intimate moment with the band, they took 8,000 people and made it seem like a small family concert. The light show going on during the show was fantastic as well, but my favorite part of the show was the final song they did before going off stage and eventually coming back out to perform an encore song.
The final song was Car Radio, which happens to be my favorite song. The song starts out slow but as it progresses it turns into a very emotional intertwining of sentences and music. While performing the song Tyler walks off stage while Josh performs a drum solo. Tyler pops up in the middle of the crowd and climbs up a pillar, once at the top he turns to the crowd arms open crowd going nuts and sings/screams the final few lines of… “and now I just sit in silence!” It was a powerful and moving performance that left me feeling satisfied that I had gotten to see my favorite song live and solidified the band as one of my favorites!
